About Karen
As an Independent College Consultant and former high school counselor based in Portland, Oregon, Karen has been helping high school students and their parents navigate the college admission process for over 20 years.
​
Karen holds a Master of Science degree in Counseling, is a licensed Certified Educational Planner and is a professional member of the Higher Education Consultants Organization (HECA).
She has served two terms on the University of Oregon’s Counselor Advisory Board, was a member of the Oregon team of educators selected to participate in former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Conference in November 2014, and served over ten years as a member of the National College Fair Planning Committee.
Karen has been published in local and national newspapers, quoted in the Oregonian’s January 2021 and January 2022 Winter Education editions.
She is a frequent speaker for the Beaverton School District’s college information nights on such topics as “Finding Affordable Colleges”, and “Building a Competitive College Profile”.
She has also presented at regional and national conferences hosted by the Pacific Northwest College for College Admission Counselors (PNACAC) and the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC).
